Out-of-school virtual learning for kids is here to stay, as our Adventure Club review can attest. But what sets this brand new monthly creative play and learning package apart from other interactive programming? Well, it engages your 5-11-year-old in mission-orientated fun which seems perfect for keeping them entertained while helping to build those all-important social and emotional skills.
However, with so much informal educational online content already available for youngsters looking for some out-of-school learning, does Adventure Club bring anything new to the table?
Your mission, should you wish to accept, is to read on as our Adventure Club review discovers more about the business, the product, and its customers so you can decide whether this virtual playtime can benefit your child.
About Adventure Club
Launched at the start of 2022, the Adventure Club concept is the brainchild of Supernow, which runs online afterschool classes for kids between the ages of four and 10.
The Supernow concept was created at the height of the Covid pandemic to encourage resilience in children while keeping them stimulated and engaged during long periods of lockdown and time out of school.
Initially delivered as a virtual summer camp, Adventure Club has expanded into an ongoing, year-round program. Led by camp counselors and youth workers, Adventure Club is also supported by educators and learning experts.
Taking Supernow’s high-energy approach towards virtual learning, Adventure Club offers a monthly ‘learning adventure’ in a box.
Adventure Club ties in with live, interactive classes where participants immerse themselves in an unfolding ‘mission’ with physical learning materials based on a different theme each month.
The box contains four weekly activities, focusing on engineering, art, and science, all brought together by a different theme each month that the youngsters need to solve.
The principles behind Adventure Club are to blend social and emotional learning (SEL) with engaging hands-on play. Considered ‘soft skills’ that can positively influence a child’s behavior, SEL can also help reduce stress and encourage academic success.
Oh, and it’s fun too, plus all the creative craft projects mean the kids have a chance to get their hands messy!
- The pricing is reasonable; for $30, you get four weekly projects plus online content
- The adventure set-up means it doesn’t feel like formal education, but your child will learn as they are having fun
- You don’t have to supervise your child (unless you want to) as an experienced
- Adventure Club instructor leads the live sessions
- The live sessions are also recorded so if your child misses one, they can still catch up and so won’t miss out
- While Adventure Box is virtual learning, your child still has the opportunity to make new friends via the live learning sessions
- If you don’t want to commit to repeating months, you can choose to buy Adventure
- Boxes individually each month
- Each box is not limited to just one child, so their siblings can also get involved
- Adventure Club is a brand-new product so there are very few reviews or customer feedback on how well it works
- Places are limited on each monthly Adventure Club event so you may find yourself on a waiting list
- You can’t get a refund if you cancel your subscription before it ends
- The website is limited in terms of finding essential information and there is a lack of specific information on Adventure Club in the FAQs
- There is no customer service telephone number for advice; you need to email if you want to make contact
How It Works
Adventure Club is an immersive learning adventure packaged up in a box. Sign up to Adventure Club, and you get a monthly activity box tailored to your child’s age range.
Each monthly box contains four weekly educational projects, all tying in with that month’s Adventure Club theme.
Expect engaging narratives to captivate your child, from space and science to the environment, brought together with a cleverly constructed ‘your mission is…’ storyline.
Your child then works through each weekly project, including participating in live online classes where they can interact with other young adventurers, led by Supernow’s own instructors and ‘camp counselors’.
Video recordings of the online classes are available if you can’t fit in with that week’s timetable.
Your child will also need to build their weekly creative project to help them solve the clues and complete the mission.
Adventure Kids Club Box Review
So, what do you get for your money when you sign up for the Adventure kids club? If you or your child has ever been to summer camp, then the theory behind this way of learning will be familiar.
And mixing educational content with ‘roll your sleeves up’ creative play is an excellent way to capture a child’s attention. But does it then deliver over the four weeks each adventure box is intended to last?
Adventure Box has a virtual summer camp feel developed by SEL experts, former campers, and counselors. But it also uses tried and tested methods to create a well-balanced mix of hands-on learning and story-driven fun.
In each box, you get the core materials and instructions you need to complete the weekly task, linked to the live online sessions where your child can directly engage with others to solve the clues and achieve their mission.
Weekly tasks
And we like that the weekly tasks are focused on topics around engineering, art, and science so it links directly with their real ‘school world’. And what kid doesn’t love an activity where you get to build things?
Each week starts with a pre-recorded project briefing that explains what that week’s task is about. You then get access to two live and on-demand sessions – the story-telling Adventure Show and that week’s project class – to bring the week together.
By the of each week, problems are solved, cool project models are made and everyone, it seems, has a great time. Kids can also submit progress photos of their projects to the Adventure Club gallery.
As a concept Adventure Club is put together well, and the mix of the tangible (your monthly project box) and virtual learning is a good idea.
But it does require your child to get fully immersed in the whole mission premise and make the time commitment each week for you to get total value out of your money.
This Month’s Adventure Review
To give you an idea of what you can expect from each monthly Adventure Box, we’ve looked at one of the themes on offer.
The first monthly adventure to be made available, ‘The Space Chase: An Intergalactic Rescue Mission’, is unashamedly over the top, and your little ones should love it.
You get two lively characters to lead your child through their mission to find the mysterious joy-o-meter. Along the way, your child will dig deeper into the science of space, make some out of this world’s creations and work with others over the live sessions to solve all the clues.
Inside the box, you get the crafting basics for a propulsion rocket experiment, a clay solar system, a lunar rover module, and a solar catcher.
But you will need to have additional materials such as foil and cards to hand at home. We advise doing a list of all the things you need to provide before each session, so you don’t have a disappointed child!
The Adventure Club box contents seem to be of decent quality and the instructions are bright and clear. And the box appears tough so should last a month for packing everything away.
We also like the quality of the videos and interactive sessions, with the lead instructors energetic enough to maintain your little one’s attention.
And for added flexibility, don’t worry if home life means your child can’t make one of the live sessions as they are also available on demand.
Adventure Club Pricing
Each Adventure Kids Club box costs $30, and you can opt to sign up for one month or take out a subscription. For subscribers, you also get 50% off your first month.
For your monthly fee, you get all the materials for four weekly projects and access to the linked online classes – led by an Adventure Club instructor – which are both live and recorded.
Adventure Club Reviews from Customers
As Adventure Club is still a very new product – Supernow has been up and running in its current format for less than 18 months, and Adventure Club was only launched at the start of 2022 – there is little independent information on the scheme available on the web.
And that includes customer reviews.
Look at the bright and buzzy (if a little simple) Adventure Club/Supernow website, and you do have customers who have given their own Adventure Club reviews.
Many highlight the club’s flexibility, meaning it can be woven around a child’s school and home life. Understandably, many parents also like the fact that they don’t necessarily have to supervise their kids during the live lessons, as there’s an instructor present.
The feedback that Adventure Club is a fun and educational alternative to watching TV is another thumbs up for the product. The way Adventure Club works around a story and engages children is also a plus.
Skip over to their Facebook page and the follower numbers are pretty low (just over 1,000), which means the company is still working to build its customer engagement. And the page also doesn’t feature any reviews, so it currently feels a little one-sided.
There are signs of increasing customer reviews for Supernow on Kidspass, which promotes out-of-school activities. The main themes are how much fun the interactive sessions are and how they engage young children.
And check out the feedback on the Supernow website for their virtual camp and afterschool online sessions, and you get a real sense that many parents have welcomed the service.
The question is, can Adventure Club pick up on all this positivity around Supernow and make its subscription service more mainstream?
Sign Up for Adventure Club
To sign up for the Adventure Club program, you need to create an account as a parent. Once set up, you can manage your Adventure Club subscription as well as any other Supernow products you choose to buy.
You can also sign up for the latest news from the Adventure Club camp, even if you have not yet subscribed.
Where to Buy
Adventure Club is an online subscription product that can only be bought via Supernow’s website. When ordering your Adventure Club box, you can opt for a one-off purchase or sign up for a monthly subscription.
The website states that there are limited slots available for each monthly Adventure Club after-school program. However, there is no indication on the website as to the actual number of slots available.
Shipping and Return Policy
As adventure Club is a subscription service, you will be asked to select the frequency when you place your order, whether a one-off month or a repeated monthly order.
We couldn’t find any specific delivery details on the website, although it does appear that the shipping of Adventure Boxes is timed to each themed month.
You do get the option of paying monthly or in advance but be aware that the subscription options are subject to auto-renew at the end of their duration.
You can opt to change or pause your Kids Adventure Club subscription at any time by emailing the Adventure Club team at [email protected]. Adventure Club also requires 30 days’ notice if you wish to cancel your subscription at its renewal time.
The most important thing to note about signing up for Adventure Club is that the fees are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged, even if you cancel before your subscription end date.
Contact Adventure Club
Still have questions after reading our Adventure Club review? The best way to contact Adventure Club is via email at [email protected]. There does not appear to be a telephone number for their customer service team.
If you have bought any of the Adventure Club or Supernow subscriptions, it is possible to chat with the team via the yellow button on the app service.
They also have a Facebook page where you can also message them directly.
Adventure Club Review: Editor’s Verdict
Adventure Club is certainly a great idea and has been born out of the real-time experience of youngsters and their families during the Covid pandemic.
During this time, the digital world and the benefits of virtual learning have certainly come into their own and are now becoming more of the norm as part of a child’s education and development.
But does Adventure Club fill a gap, and can it compete against the sheer volume of online educational entertainment for kids?
With the product only launched in early 2022, it is a little early for this Adventure Club review to make such an assessment, but we do think it can have a role to play.
And as it is easy and safe to use, gives parents some free time, and is clearly education-based so has a focus on all that fun, it can be an engaging addition to your child’s weekly out-of-school routine.
Price-wise, it is not too expensive, although some parents may not be too keen to sign up for a subscription that won’t give them their money back if they have to cancel.
And as capacity plays a role in how many Adventure Club Boxes are available each month, there is a limit to what the product can currently offer.
But if your child prefers to be involved rather than passive when it comes to their screen time, and you want to encourage playtime that helps them to develop, then Adventure Club is a fun addition to their out-of-school life.
