Interested in selling or buying pre-owned luxury goods? Then you’ve probably heard of Fashionphile, a second-hand retailer that specializes in purchasing and selling designer handbags, watches, jewelry, and accessories. Founded in 1999, Fashionphile is one the leading second-hand stores for luxury goods, and its popularity seems to only be growing. Whether you’re interested in selling or buying authentic designer handbags and accessories, our Fashionphile review should help you decide if this is the right place for you do to it. Read on for a comprehensive overview of the company, its collections and products, customer reviews, and more!
About Fashionphile
Founded in 1999 by Sarah Davis, a law student at the time, Fashionphile was the very first luxury re-commerce brand. In an effort to expand her business and present it to a larger market, Davis partnered with Ben Hemminger in 2006, who became the company’s CEO. Today, Fashionphile is also the exclusive re-commerce partner of Neiman Marcus, a famous American chain of luxury department stores.
With over two decades of experience in selling and buying designer goods, Fashionphile has become one of the world’s most popular and trusted second-hand stores for designer items. In a world where counterfeit luxury handbags are more and more popular, we need stores like Fashionphile. The company boasts an extensive range of nearly new, vintage, and limited edition handbags and accessories that can be bought both online and in Brick-and-Mortar stores. Speaking of which, if you prefer shopping in person, you can do so in the following cities: Beverly Hills, San Francisco, New York City, and Carlsbad.
The brand was featured in many great fashion publications such as Grazia, Women Wear Daily, Vogue and Fashion Network.
- Attainable luxury with a huge list of high-end designers
- Massive choice in bags and accessories
- Free pickup and returns for US-based customers and resellers
- International Shipping Available
- Return fees apply
- Consignment sales (selling to customers as opposed to directly selling to Fashionphile) can take up to a few weeks
Selling on Fashionphile
Suppose you own luxury items that you don’t use anymore. In that case, Fashionphile offers resellers the ability to sell their handbags and accessories directly to the company (which Fashionphile calls “selling on buyout”). The other option is for Fashionphile resellers to sell on consignment. If you choose to do so, Fashionphile will store and sell your item on their website for you for a predefined fee that an agreement valid for 90 days will confirm.
To get a quote, you can submit an item online, schedule a virtual appointment, request a “White Glove pickup” in Southern California only, or simply check in a Fashionphile studio or showroom.
A few guidelines to sell on buyout:
- Enter the description and photos of your item on the website
- You sell your item directly to Fashionphile and get a quote valid for 30 days based on several criteria like availability, retail value, and condition of the item
- The buyout price ranges between 50% and 70% of the item’s resale value
- All buyout sales are final once payment has been issued
- Fashionphile issues payment upfront via store credit or Neiman Marcus Gift card (earning you an additional 10% bonus), check, PayPal, Direct deposit/ACH, or Wire Transfer
- Processing time takes between 2-4 days once checked-in and may take up to 10 business days for some items like fine jewelry, watches, Hermes Birkin, Hermes Kelly, and Hermes Constance bags
- Fashionphile offers free insured domestic shipping for items sent from the continental United States and free insured shipping from $1000 quoted value from outside continental U.S.
Sell on Consignment:
If you choose to sell your previously owned items on consignment, you engage in an agreement in which Fashionphile sells your item for you, earning a fee from the sale:
- 30% of the selling price goes to Fashionphile
- Tiered fee structure drops to 15% for bags selling for over $3.000
Consignments are a minimum term of 90 days, with a charge for early termination of a consignment agreement. Fashionphile offers free insured domestic shipping for items sent from the continental United States, and shipping is free from $1000 quoted value from outside continental U.S.
Customers from outside the US can also sell their pre-owned luxury bags, watches or accessories to Fashionphile, with the shipping costs incurring to the customer. If duties or taxes occur, Fashionphile will pay the fees upfront and split the cost with the seller 50/50, deducting the 50% portion of the total fees from the issued payment.
What Items Can You Sell to Fashionphile?
- A limited selection of designer shoes; like-new, unworn, with a minimum resale value of $300
- Jewelry and watches from a limited list of top designers available on the Fashionphile website
- Fashionphile does not accept shirts, pants, jackets, or skirts
Fashionphile Reviews Seller Feedback
For our review, we’ve checked in detail seller feedback on a couple of popular review websites, including Yelp and Trustpilot.
Many users of Fashionphile have outlined that their selling experience had been made quick and easy. Others have appreciated quotes that were deemed very honest for the luxury bags and accessories they had sold to or through Fashionphile. Fashionphile Review from Customers
For our Fashionphile review, we’ve looked at customers’ experiences on various review websites, including Trustpilot, Yelp, and SiteJabber.
We are pleasantly surprised to find many customers raving about the beauty and excellent condition of the items online or in-store. The reviews also stressed the ease with which they had purchased their handbags and accessories. There was a no-fuss installment payments process, and how fast they had received their order from Fashionphile. The great majority of customers have loved their purchasing experience. This allowed them to treat themselves to pre-owned luxury items in excellent condition at a fraction of the cost.
Unfortunately, some of the customers had a delay in their order due to the shipping carrier but were still able to track their parcel. A few reviewers were displeased that the Fashionphile authentication team had deemed their item(s) inauthentic as well. While unfortunate for potential sellers, this highlights the fact that for Fashionphile, authenticity is the priority.
Popular Alternatives to Fashionpile

While some customers have experienced delays in the process of their order matters and emails, we found that, on average, they were satisfied with how the customer support team had accompanied them throughout both the buying and the selling processes.

Is Fashionphile worth it?
Are you curious about our verdict? Well, no wonder. It can be dangerous buying from these websites as you never know what items you might end up receiving. Although if you’re in San Francisco, New York, or any other Fashionphile store you can see for yourself the designer goods.
Considering how you’ll save hundreds and thousands of dollars by purchasing designer items already owned by someone, we say Fashionphile is worth it. We also think that they have great customer service despite the negative reviews. After all, it’s quite normal to have a few negative reviews of any brand or fashion store.
Overall, customers who love designer goods, and would love to own Chanel, Dior, Louis Vitton, or any other of these huge fashion houses, will benefit from purchasing from them. Don’t forget that you might even find items that are no longer available online. It’s really a bargain, but we’ll let you be the judge of that!

You will purchase only real brand name luxury handbags and accessories from the Fashionphile website, showrooms, or the Fashionphile studios at Neiman Marcus.

Fashionphile guarantees the authenticity and great condition of each item they sell, and customers have a 100% Money Back Guarantee if they are not satisfied with their order.

For bags selling over $3.000, the tiered fee structure drops to 15% (you earn 70% of the first $3.000 and 85% of the remaining amount)
For even more discounted styles, Fashionphile has created Fashionphile Outlet, which offers the same authentic items from luxury brands. However, those Outlet items do not meet the standards in condition, style, or price point of Fashionphile and are discounted further.
Fashionphile is always adding new items, probably around 10-15 items each day. If you are searching for something, you should probably check the website every other day to make sure you don't miss out on the coolest items!
Every single submission is carefully considered and looked at. The expert team looks at the condition, style, and brand. If everything meets the team's criteria and it is also in good condition, only then will it go on the website.
